Legal consequences of holding pets for ransom?

Often in my neighborhood, rewards are put out for lost pets, so I have started taking them for a few days to my house and then bring them back when the 'boo hoo' posters with a reward come out.
Answer:
The law treats pets like property. You could be charged with numerous criminal offenses, including theft and extortion. And as you are establishing a pattern of this behavior, you are playing with fire. Additionally, I would argue that you would be liable in a civil lawsuit for intentional infliction of emotional distress. Bottom line - this "easy money" scheme has numerous legal consequences, not to mention terrible ethical implication!
You are joking right?
This is called theft and possibly extortion. It will earn you jail time when the neighbors figure out when you are the one "finding" their pets.
and your OK with this ? It is kinda like extortion. How can you sleep at night ? It is also illegal.
